Twenty years away. One guitar. A lifetime of stories.
Somewhere between the last show and the next one, life happened.
For Detroit-born musician Nathan Mazur, that meant stepping away from music for more than two decades. The stages, the vans, the late nights, the recording studios, and the songs were replaced by business, parenting, family, and the normal responsibilities of everyday life.
But apparently, music and creativity weren’t yet finished with him.
In early 2025, Mazur picked up a guitar – and a pen – once again.
Nathan’s Patience was born.
The Detroit, Michigan-based pop-punk/alternative rock band is the second chapter of a musical story that began more than 20 years ago. Before Nathan’s Patience, Mazur fronted Detroit pop-punk band Nowadays, eventually making the leap to full-time touring musician in 2001 when he moved to California and joined Los Angeles pop-punk outfit Never Heard of It (NHOI) as a guitarist and backing vocalist.
What followed was the kind of whirlwind most young musicians dream about: nationwide touring, a slot on every date of the 2002 Warped Tour, and stages shared with bands Mazur idolized including Bad Religion, New Found Glory, Reel Big Fish,The Used, Lagwagon, Yellowcard, NOFX and more.
NHOI’s constant DIY touring helped build a large national fanbase, eventually leading to the band headlining a sold-out Glass House in Pomona, California, playing in front of more than 800 people.
Then, in 2005, Mazur walked away.
For nearly 20 years.
When he finally returned to songwriting in 2025, he wasn’t trying to recreate his twenties. He was writing from an entirely different place – with decades of experiences, relationships, mistakes, responsibilities, and a whole new perspective on life behind him.
That perspective became “The Thoughts We Can’t Tell”, Nathan’s Patience’s debut three-song EP, released September 2, 2025.
Produced and engineered by John Kowaleski, the EP is an emotionally direct collision of melodic pop-punk and alternative rock. Its three songs—“Just For Tonight,” “Inevitable,” and “My Hypocrisy”—deal with anxiety, relationships, disappointment, self-reflection, regret, resilience, and the complicated process of trying to become comfortable with, and love who you are.
There’s no attempt to pretend everything is figured out.
And that’s the point.
“Just For Tonight” captures the desire to escape the weight of the world, even if only temporarily. “Inevitable” confronts the end of a relationship and the realization that sometimes closure means walking away. “My Hypocrisy” turns inward, wrestling with guilt, self-awareness, and the uncomfortable gap between who we want to be and who we’ve actually been.
Together, the songs feel less like a debut from a new band and more like the opening pages of a story that was 20 years in the making.
The studio project soon became a 5 piece live band.
Mazur and Kowaleski were joined by Randy Schroeder, Chris Doerr, and Craig Dominiak, bringing together decades of experience from Michigan’s punk, alternative, and rock music scenes. Schroeder, in particular, reconnects with Mazur after the two played together in Nowadays more than two decades ago.
And suddenly, Nathan’s Patience was doing something Mazur hadn’t done in a very long time:
Getting back on a stage.
The band’s first official live performance arrived in March 2026, at The Sanctuary in Hamtramck, opening up for national touring artist “Crazy and the Brains”. That was soon followed by additional Detroit-area shows, as well as their first show in Mt. Pleasant, MI at the historical Broadway Theater. The group continues to book gigs consistently throughout Michigan with plans to start touring regionally, as they continue expanding their fanbase in Michigan and beyond.
The early response to their music has also extended beyond Michigan. Nathan’s Patience has been featured by independent music publications and blogs, with coverage highlighting the band’s melodic songwriting, relatable lyrics, emotional honesty, and the unusual story behind Mazur’s return to music.
But don’t mistake Nathan’s Patience for a nostalgia project.
This isn’t about trying to recreate 2002.
It’s about the magic that happens when the person you were, meets the person you’ve become.
It’s about discovering that the creative part of you can remain quiet, without it ever actually disappearing.
It’s about realizing that sometimes you don’t get a second chance to be young – but you do get chances to start again.
Nathan’s Patience is what happens when you finally stop waiting.
And after 20 years away, they’re just getting started.

Meet The Band:
After 20 years of being away from writing music, and the music industry in general, I started writing music again in early 2025. Once I connected with producer John Kowaleski, things moved quickly. I couldn’t be more excited to be creating again, and am so excited for my humble return to this entire process.
John Kowaleski grew up surrounded by music. His father, a longtime radio DJ, began working at W4 Country 106.7 FM in Detroit on the day John was born. From an early age, John was immersed in live performance, even being held as a child by country legends like Willie Nelson and Alabama. Watching Nelson command an audience of thousands lit the spark that made John realize he wanted to dedicate his life to music.
By age eight, John had formed his first band with his two best friends. Their basement rehearsals, held nearly every day, eventually evolved into The Cue-Tips, and later Churchill and Churchill’s Revenge, for which John was the principal songwriter. Through the 1990s and early 2000s, he also played drums in Blindshot and P.T.’s Revenge, contributing not just rhythm but songwriting, including music and lyrics for several tracks on P.T.’s Revenge’s 2024 self-titled album, which he fully produced, engineered, recorded, and mixed.
In addition to punk and alternative projects, John was the principal music writer for the progressive metal band Bat On Fire, co-founding the group with his brother Karlos. Together they created historically researched concept albums such as The Death Of Solomon Scarlett and The Raft Of The Medusa. John also toured internationally as the guitarist for psychobilly band Koffin Kats, performing across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Europe, while also serving as their producer and engineer during earlier years.
A multi-instrumentalist and certified audio engineer, John continues to balance musicianship, songwriting, and production as a solo artist. Whether releasing hard-hitting social commentary like Affluenza U or lighthearted holiday songs like Santa’s Workshop, his goal remains the same: to create music that makes people feel seen, understood, and less alone.

Randy Schroeder fell in love with music at a young age. He discovered early in life that he had a natural ear for it when he selected the alto saxophone as his instrument of choice in 5th & 6th grade band. It wasn’t long before his obsession with music resulted in him learning how to play guitar and bass, and with his newfound love of creating, he found others who felt that same calling to create, and his first band was formed in his teens. Throughout his musical career, Randy has played bass for many Michigan based bands, and has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in punk rock and ska.
